Minivan Shopping: Here I Come

I am looking for a new car.  Not just any car.  A Minivan.  Not just any minivan.  The perfect minivan.  Of course, perfection takes many forms, so here's my checklist (it will be expanded* as I find more things I do/don't need in my next vehicle):

  • ABS Brakes!  Would you believe my 2008 Impala does not have ABS?  Ugh!
  • As many top tether spots as possible, more for the options this opens up.  I have no desire to have up to 6 kids, but I could become the designated soccer mom :)
  • As many lower anchors (LATCH) as possible, though this isn't as necessary since I love the seatbelt install on DS's NextFit car seat.  I have a hunch I'll be using the lower anchors for the Graco bucket when we finally have kid number 2, though, so it's still important.
  • It would be lovely to fit 2 kids in car seats and 6 adults in the van.  I can see this happening at least 2-4 times a year, if not more.
  • Comfortable seats, all the way around.  Refer to previous post about 6 adults.
  • A tailgate that lifts high enough so that hubby isn't clonked in the noggin whenever he walks back there.
  • Back-up camera.
  • As many controls on the steering wheel as I can get away with.
  • Probably every safety feature required by the Car Seat Lady that hasn't already been discussed.
I know, that's a lot of stuff to wish for, but I think I can actually get all this in the Honda Odyssey.

I'm not dead yet!

Hey everyone!  Long time, no write.  And you don't know just how true that is.  I originally opened this blog over a year ago with the intention of posting something at least once a week.  Certainly no less than once a month.  Here we are a year later, and I finally return like the prodigal writer.  Better late than never, right?

Okay, so it's not like I've told anyone about this blog.  I mean, hubby knows I've started it, and he also knows I haven't written anything for it.  Instead, I've been trying to keep up with my D&D write-ups, which is what he'd prefer I work on instead :)

So, with no further ado, I will soon posting a WIP entry dealing with car searching.  I'm in the market, and have been hoarding links.  But, why am I talking about that here?  Onwards, to the next post!

How About That?

So, you made your way to my bridge.  What'd you think of the that first post?  A bit pretentious?  Yeah, sorry about that.  I've got a lot on my mind dealing with the topic of getting started, and figured that an article about getting started would be a great start to a blog.

Oh, and you can expect more on the topic in the future :)

Like a Bridge...
In the meantime, I'd like to introduce myself.  My name is Bridget.  My eighth-grade teacher used to call on me in class by singing "Like a Bridget over troubled waters...".  That explains half of the blog title.  What about the other half?

Random Thoughts = Meandering Waters
My plans for this blog...well, I really don't have any plans.  Since this is my first blog (no, I don't have plans for more blogs...yet) I really didn't want to limit myself to any one topic.  Plus, as I mentioned in the first post, I don't think I have enough to say about any one topic to warrant a single-topic blog.  Thus, this blog will pretty much meander its way through my thought process of day-to-day life.  Okay, is anyone else tired of reading the word "blog"?  Cause I sure am.  Moving on...

What to Expect
I've got a lot going on, and a whole lot of nothing happening, so I really don't know what to expect.  There will be streams of consciousness, lists of things I find interesting, posts that are nothing but links to articles that I found interesting that day, so on and so forth.  At the very least, you'll probably read about:
  • Facebook
  • Pocket God on Facebook
  • Being a wife
  • Being a mom
  • Shooting - as in First-Person Shooting games
  • Shooting - as in 9mm guns at the local range
  • Finances (spoiler alert: I'm a Dave Ramsey fan)
  • Music
  • Who knows?  I'm sure I'll find more.
Family
Oh, and I'm sure there will be information here about my family.  I have a wonderful husband, and the cutest son ever!  I'll try to keep personal details to a minimum (I don't need no stalkers to stalk me...plus, refer to the second "shooting" reference above - I am prepared for stalkers!) but watching a kid grow up is fun!  I'd love to share a touch of that with family and friends, and this is the likely place for that information :)

Just Start

Seriously, how hard can it be to just start something?
  • A NaNo novel
  • ANY novel
  • Washing the dishes
  • Cleaning the house
  • Exercise regimen
  • Starting a Blog (see what I did there?  See?  First post on a blog, and I list it as something hard to...start...never mind)
  • Heck, even leaving the house feels like an epic undertaking some days

Why is it hard to get something started?  Well, here's my excuses I MEAN reasons:
  • What if nobody likes it?
  • What if too many people like it, and I'm famous, but they don't like it the same way I like it, and I'm famous for the wrong reasons?
  • Which counts as nobody liking it, BTW

And starting this blog?
  • I have too many ideas
  • None of them mesh into a coherent blog subject
  • And I certainly don't have enough to say on any single topic to justify one blog per topic!
  • Oh, I'd like everything to be absolutely PERFECT before I post even the first article.  After all, I have so much to say on the topic of starting, on parenting, on gaming, on reading, on... and on and on.

Okay, there's my excuses out of the way.  How about you?  What's holding you back?

Stop procrastinating.  Start today.
